DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF PROFESSOR HEAD, DEPARTMENT OF RADIATION ONCOLOGY 

He/She shal1 be responsible for 

  • Routine out patient work
  • Ward work 
  • Treatment Planning 
  • Performing Operations
  • Teaching and Training
  • Research activities 
  • Community Education 
  • Emergency work 

In addition to duties of his post he/she has to do the following  duties as HOD

  • Setting up high standard of professional conduct in the department. 
  • Planning the teaching schedule in consultation with other staff in the department o Planning practical training to UG and PG along with ward assignment" 
  • Planning clinical teaching programmes/with Intra and Inter-departmental co-ordination
  • Organization of Seminars, Panel Discussions, Symposia, Debates, Journal Clubs and other learning activities 
  • Display of Circulars and Educational material in Notice Boards 
  • Carrying out teaching work with assistance from members of staff 
  • Conduct of Internal Assessment/Tests/Compilation of marks and despatch to Principal/University 
  • Guidance to students in methods of study and use of reference books and library
  • Guiding PGs and their Dissertation work o Taking part in college council meeting o Conduct of Diploma /UG/PG Exams 
  • Supervise Admission and discharge of patients 
  • Supervise out-patient work 
  • Supervision of maintenance of ward cleanliness, patient's records, x-ray and other documents 
  • Action for up keeping and timely repairs of equipment
  • Action for Indent for necessary instruments for the department
  • Supervise and Maintenance of Stock Registers and inventories
  • Co-ordinating and facilitating work of their staff members
  • Investigation of complaints and suitable remedial measures 
  • Formulation of short term and long term plans-for growth and developments of the department 
  • Supervise compilation and maintenance of statistics of department
  • Submission of Confidential Reports of subordinate teaching and non-teaching staff to higher officer'  
  • Sanction of CL to subordinate staff
  • Responsible for official correspondence
  • Supervision of pre-operative pre-operative operation and post-operative care of the patients
  • Establishment and maintenance of departmental library/museum and seminar room o Maintenance of Movement Register for the department staff
  • In addition to the duties enumerated above he/she is responsible for assigning special work related to the department and he/she feels fit to his subordinates
  • Deputing teaching staff as per protocol during VIP and VVIP visits
  • Any other work entrusted by Medical Superintendent/Chief Administrative Officer/principal/Director/university 

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF RADIATION ONCOLOGY

  • He/She shall be responsible for
  • Routine outpatient work
  • Teaching
  • Training 
  • He/She shall be responsible for setting up of high standard of professional conduct in the department 
  • Taking active participation in the preparation of course contents, teaching schedule of UG and PG teaching both bedside and didactic lecture classes for UG and PG 
  • Co-ordinating the department activities
  • Attending Seminars, Panel Discussions, Symposia, Debates. Journal Clubs and other learning activities of the department/college 
  • Carrying out teaching work with assistance from members of staff
  • Conduct of Internal assessment tests and compilation and despatch of marks list to Principal/University
  • Guiding the PGs in their Dissertation
  • Conducting UG/PG exams
  • Out-patient work
  • Admission and discharge of patients
  • Supervision of pre-operative operations and post-operative care of the patients
  • Supervision of maintenance of ward cleanliness 
  • Supervision of maintenance of patient’s records/x-ray and other documents 
  • To ensure department discipline, decorum and conduct and patient service.
  • Hands on teaching of cases of Academic interest
  • To conduct clinical and epidemiological work and to present paper at and chairing sessions (of national and international) conferences
  • It is mandatory that one shall not refuse and work related to examination of conferences University / Government / National Board without any valid reason
  • In case of emergency! any other official work, professional-services should be made available for 24 hours even on holiday as it is essential service.
  • To attend VIP and VVIP as per protocol when required
  • Any other work entrusted by HOD /Medical Superintendent/Chief Administrative Officer/Principal/Director 

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF RADIATION ONCOLOGY

  • He shall ensure smooth and successful completion of the assigned official work entrusted to him by the Head of the Department both regarding the teaching work as well as patient care 
  • He should be available in the hospital premises during duty hours and as assigned by HOD 
  • He shall consult his seniors whenever he feels necessary in the interest of the patient o Take part in teaching programmes of the department 
  • Helping the post-graduates in preparation of Dissertation and Seminar/Journal Club as assigned by HOD Assisting the HOD in Examination work
  • To assist in conducting internal assessment for UG o To assist in conducting university examination work 
  • To carryout Research work in co-ordination with HOD 
  • To support and guide students in their curricular and extracurricular activities, maintenance of the department and other subordinate staff 
  • To participate in Seminars, Conferences of State National and International Level to present papers or to participate 
  • Promptly carryout the examination duties as assigned by superiors/university and if not complied, considered as dereliction of duty 
  • In case of emergency or any other official work his services should be available for 24 hours on any day including holidays as this is essential service 
  • Attending VIP and VVIP as per protocol as and when required 
  • Leave should not be applied on the days on which he has teaching schedules 
  • Any other work entrusted by the HOD/ Medical Superintendent/Chief Administrative Officer/Principal/Director

RESIDENT SURGEON

  • The working hours of the Resident Surgeons shall be on duty at the Institute during the 24 hours (9.00 am to 9.00 am). While on duty, he shall not leave the premises under any circumstances. 
  • The Resident Surgeon shall' make preliminary rounds as soon as he arrives at the Hospital between 8.00 am and 9.00 am along with the Nursing Superintendent Gr-lls and shall write detailed notes on the treatment given to the patients and to appraise the Head of the Department Unit of what all he has done and of the day-to-day status of the patients in their respective units and the investigation reports received on each patient obtain advice on the treatment to be given to seriously ill 
  • The Resident Surgeon shall .also complete all entries in the case' sheet  wherever indicated during the period between  00 am and 9.00 am
  • The Resident Surgeons shall work under the Head of the Department Unit concerned' between 9.00 am and 4.00.pm 
  • The Resident Surgeons shall utilize the period of between 4.00 pm and 5.00 pm for review of their patient’s status and update the case sheet filing 
  • The Resident Surgeons shall also be responsible to see that the case sheets are maintained satisfactorily by the staff nurse concerned such as sequence of the sheets in the case record, nurse's notes doctors orders, etc,.
  • The Resident Surgeons shall see that drugs and injections prescribed/ordered are issued by the staff nurse and that the patient really gets these by verifying the same during his rounds in the morning between 8.00 am to 9.00 am and 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm 
  • The Resident Surgeons shall meet the officers in the Laboratories/diagnostic department and work as liaison personnel between their respective Departments/units and the Diagnostic departments.

ASST. SOCIAL WELFARE OFFICER

  • Counselling for providing psycho-social support with the help of guiding principles to  weekly parents meeting
  • Ward rounds from 9.00 am to 10 am along with the doctors and to listen to their grievances and to assist them according to the instruction of the doctor
  • To help the patients to complete all investigations
  • Procedures o To extend guidance to out-patients 
  • To assist for procuring the drugs from KCDF
  • To assist for poor patients to get concessions from KCMMR Fund
  • To maintain the accounts of KCMMR funds, Mayor fund, Governor's fund and to arrange for distribution of funds to concerned patients
  • To assist for getting railway pass to avail treatment
  • To arrange to procure blood requirements to the patients
  • To prepare estimation letters to send to CM /PM and other voluntary organizations with the help of doctors 

STAFF NURSE

  • She shall be responsible to perform duties of' the concerned out-patient department and should possess knowledge of all duties
  • She should be punctual in their duties and report an hour early to the department should leave the department only after closing 
  • She should be kind and soft spoken and have patients while conversing with patients/subordinates
  • She should assist and help in various teaching and hospital duties irrespective of holidays 
  • She should be responsible for overall cleanliness and hygiene of the department and  undertake regular rounds of the department  and labs OT etc
  • She should be responsible for supervision of Linen and proper sterilization  and proper  disposal of waste.
  • She should ensure that proper sterilization and aseptic techniques are followed assist staff members at chain side, while treating the patient by providing proper instruments, materials etc,.
  • She shall assist the teaching staff ie., Lecturers and Asst. Professor
  • She shall-maintain the statistics and accounts in the department
  • She shall take stock of the material and instrument, timely maintenance and supply to the students and staff while working
  • She shall keeping stock of various medicines, emergency drugs in the department and to maintain it
  • She shall counsel the patients
  • She shall assigns duties to the sub-ordinates
  • She shall delegate’s responsibility with authority
  • She shall supervise the safety and comfort of a patient
  • She shall participate in camps and other health education programmes when every it are posted
  • Apart from above said duty, staff nurse should carry out official duty entrusted by the HOD

CHIEF RADIOGRAPHER

  • He is responsible for overall supervision.
  • He is in charge of Radiographers IX-ray Technicians and students on the machines.
  • He is responsible for maintenance of Daily Attendance Register.
  • He is responsible to look after day to day work in Clinic, Simulator, Superficial x-ray
  • He is responsible to undertake all necessary correspondence through HOD.
  • He is responsible for reporting to HOD daily at 10.00a.m to brief the daily working  
  • He is responsible for supervise work' of Group D staff attached to machines and organize periodic cleanliness of entire Radiotherapy Section.
  • He is responsible to supervise day to day work in Theratron 780C, Theratron80, GMX, Cobalt 137 

RADIOGRAPHERS/X-RAY TECHNICIANS

  • He/she shall be responsible for routine work entrusted by the HOD.
  • He/she shall be responsible to check entries in Registers, RT Charts and RT cards and organize the patients appointment on the machines. 
  • He/she shall maintain daily statistics. 
  • He/she shall arrange practical teaching to B.Sc., Medical Technology students in terms of patients set up and sequences. 
  • He/she shall coordinate with Chief Radiographers. 

 

STOER-CLERK-CUM- TYPIST

Typing work

  • Reply to all the Circulars, Note and Letters received from Office
  • Correspondence with outside institutions
  • Clearance of capitation letters to ESI patients
  • Preparation of Medical Estimation Letters
  • Arrange for certification of Medical expenditure bills of patients
  • Preparation of Discharge summaries, Case summaries, Duty roaster
  • Preparation of Attendance extract
  • Processing of CM/PM fund requisition received at department 

Clerical work

  • Verification of medical bill reimbursement
  • Drafting of letters
  • Take down dictation of letter
  • Maintenance of stock registers
  • Maintenance of furniture stock register, attendance registers and files                                                            

ATTENDER

  • To wear the Uniform daily
  • To attend the Office at 7.30 am in the morning and if required sweeping and work of outside the Office, Staircase etc,.
  • To attend to sweeping, and dusting of the Office twice a day 
  • To keep the sinks, toilets drainage clean 
  • To keep at the hospital premises and surroundings clean 
  • To wash to windows on S afternoons 
  • To be present in the Office during the working hours
  • To distribute the files and papers to different departments/wards and offices 
  • To stitch the files 
  • To assist in bringing materials and stationeries  from the Stores 
  • To arrange all the files cleanly and neatly in order 
  • To clean the furniture of the Office daily 
  • To dispose the wastes of the Office according to the instructions of the Matron 
  • To be courteous with patients, visitors and attendants 
  • To protect the property and assets of the Hospital 
  • To collect the materials which were' left out by oversight by patients and attendants and to hand over the same to Matron for further action 
  • To bring refreshments to the Officer 
  • Closing the department after the staff and officers have left the office/department and ensure the Electrical equipment’s are switched off before closing the office/department. 
  • To attend any extra work entrusted by Matron as and when

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF GENERAL DUTY RESIDENT SURGEON

  • The General Duty Resident Surgeon shall be in charge of preliminary examination and referral to concerned department. 
  • The Resident Surgeons on General Duty shall also work as substitute Resident Surgeon in absence of a Resident Surgeon of any of the Departments 
  • The Resident Surgeon on General duty may be asked to do day duty or night duty Depending on their attendants and the administration 
  • The Resident Surgeon on General duty shall act as liason officers between the patients and their attendants and the administration
  • The Resident Surgeons on General duty shall also act as link between the various Departments of the Institute 
  • They shall not only look after the duties entrusted to them as stated about but also attend to other problems of the patients and their attendants relating to the professional aspects while the Public Relations Officer and Social Worker deal the sociological aspects 
  • The Resident Surgeons on General Duty shall work in coordination with the Medical Records Unit of the Hospital Cancer Registry 
  • The Resident Surgeons on general duty are also bound to undertake such of the duties and responsibilities that may be entrusted to them from time to time by the Director 
  • The Resident Surgeon on general duty shall also be posted for 24 hours duty. 
  • The Resident Surgeons on general duty shall also assist the other Resident Surgeons in emergencies, blood transfusions, I.V. fluid therapy, chemotherapy, minor diagnostic and treatment procedures, voluntary blood donation camps and cancer detection camps 

 

RESIDENT SURGEONS-OUT-PATIENT

  • The working hours of the Resident Surgeons shall be-err duty at the-Institute duing the 24 hours (9.00 am to 9.00 am). While on duty, he shall not leave the premises under any circumstances.

  • The Resident shall be at the bedside  of  critically  ill patients in turn and personally supervise all treatment and contact the Head of the Dept/Unit or the Asst  to the Head of the Unit, as the case may be, if he feels that he needs to consult and   obtain advice on the treatment to be given to seriously ill patients. 
  • The Resident Surgeon shall also complete all entries in the case sheet wherever indicated during :the period between 8.00 am and 9.00 am 
  • The Resident Surgeons shall work under the Head of the Department/Unit  concerned between 9.00 am 'and 4.00 pm 
  • The Resident Surgeons sh~l1utilize the period of between 4.00 pm and 5.00 pm for review of their patient's status and update the case sheet filing

Pre-donation counseling

  1. To help high risk donors to defer themselves from donating blood. A high risk Donor is one who practices any of the following high risk activate like
  • Sex with multiple sex partner
  • Promiscuous perverted sex activity
  • Drug addition
  • Alcoholic etc.,

Counselling is offered to donors before donating blood, where by the interaction between the counsellor and donor helps “High  risk  donors” to drop out, and they do not come forward to donate. This is known as “ self-deferral” by  which he donor is given the choice not to donate blood.

  1. To help Potential healthy donors, to come forward to donate , who have not yet come forward to donate due to such factors like fear, lack of information etc,. These individuals are given the choice of donating blood. 
  1. To help temporarily deferred donors to come back to the donor pool. Temporarily deferred donors are persons who have been advised by the medical officer not to donate blood for the present time due to factors like low HB, under age, acute infection etc. without counselling these donors may be lost forever.

Post-donation counselling

To Present further donation by a donor who has returned out to be  test positive for any of the serological performed by the blood bank, and the client is referred to further diagnostic and treatment centres.

  • To Assist for research activities and to collect the statistics of the department 

ASST.SOCIAL WELFARE OFFICER

  • Counseling for providing psycho-social support with the help of guiding principles to weekly parents meeting
  • Ward rounds from 9.00 am to 10 am along with the doctor and to listen to their grievances and to assist them according to the instructions of the doctors

FIELD WORKER (MEDICO-SOCIAL WORKER) MOBILE CANCER DETECTION UNIT

  • He is responsible for collecting the basic data in the pre-devised questionnaire on all persons attending the campus and sort out according to suspected/detected cancers and non-cancers
  • He shall assist the Head of the department for the successful conduction of campus in terms of attending to the problems faced by the people attending the campus
  • He will motivate the suspected/detected patients to seek treatment from the cancer centers
  • He shall help the patients detected at campus to seek proper care when they report at the Institute
  • He shall take an active role in the cancer education programme along with the other staff of the department
  • He shall be responsible for entering the data collected at the campus in the computer and assist in the analysis of data
  • He will take the help and guidance from the computer wing for the purpose of data analysis
  • He shall be responsible for proper maintenance of the completed profoma/records of C.D.Campus/Clinic.
  • He shall take the donor/camp organizers 

RESIDENT SURGEON 

  • The working hours of the Resident Surgeons shall be on duty at the Institute during the 24hours (9.00 am to 9.00 am). While on duty, he shall not leave the premises under any circumstances
  • The Resident Surgeon shall make preliminary rounds as soon as he arrives at the Hospital between 8.00 am to 9.00 am along with the Nursing Superintendent Gr-IIs and shall write detailed notes on the treatment given to the patients and to appraise the Head of the Department Unit of what all he has done and of the day-to-day status of the patients in their respective units and the investigation reports received on each patient
  • The Resident Surgeon shall be at the bedside of critically ill patient in turn and personally supervise all treatment and contact the Head of the Dept/Unit or the Asst. To the head of the unit, as the case may be, if he feels that he needs to consult and obtain advice on the treatment to be given to seriously ill patients.
  • The Resident surgeon shall also complete all entries in the case sheet wherever indicated during the period between 8.00 am and 9.00 am
  • The resident Surgeon shall work under the head of the Department/Unit concerned between 9.00 am and 4.00 pm
  • The Resident Surgeon shall utilize the period of between 4.00 pm and 5.00 pm for review of their patient’s status and update the case sheet filing
  • The Resident Surgeons shall also be responsible to see that the case sheets are maintain satisfactorily by the staff nurse concerned such as sequence of the sheets in the case record, nurse’s note doctor order, ect,.
  • The Resident Surgeons shall see that drugs and injections prescribed/ordered are issued by the staff nurse and that the patient really gets these by verifying the same during, his rounds in the morning between 8.00 am to 9.00 am and 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm
  • The Resident surgeon shall meet the officers in the Laboratories/diagnostic department and work as liaison personnel between their repective Departments/Units and the Diagnostic departments.
